NIGERIAN FASHION INDUSTRY TAKEN TO NEW HEIGHTS AT THE 12TH EDITION OF THE NIGERIA FASHION WEEK

Lexy Mojo-Eyes
Lexy Mojo-Eyes has been in the forefront and a foremost catalyst in the Nigerian and African fashion Industry. He introduced the first major fashion event in Nigeria, The Nigeria Fashion Show, and began by re-orientating Nigerian designers to look inward for all local fabrics, accessories, and designs in their production lines. According to Lexy ‘’If we wish to successfully compete globally in the world stage, then we must look inward for inspiration in our production lines.” Thus it’s no surprise when the 12th edition of the Nigeria Fashion week took place on the 19th – 21st November 2014 in Lagos at the prestigious Lagos Oriental Hotel.
The three day event played host to Spanish highly acclaimed international designer, Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, one of Nigerian foremost designers, Adebayo Jones, Our heritage clothing, Klassy Ladies, Modella B, Independent Denim wear designer, Chip Odina, Lumiere Couture, Grazee, Simply Glamorous Fashion, Add-Ons Accessories amongst others all showing beautiful Nigerian collections that held all present at the event spell bound. Also present where guest from all works of life from the government to the corporate world, entertainers and fashionistas.
Although expected to show her 2015 summer collection as the headline Special Guest on the last day of the Fashion Week, Agatha Ruiz de la Prada couldn’t as the Nigerian Customs seized her collections at the point of entry. This didn’t deter her from gracing the occasion; she told all present how sorry she was that she couldn’t show her collections due to the development but promised to be in Nigeria for the next Fashion Show and then she hope to showcase her latest collection.

She praised Lexy’s initiative which has inspired the past, present, and future generations of designers from this part of the world through his Nigeria fashion Week Platform and unlike years back every Nigerian designer uses mainly locally assembled materials.
