According to
Transparency International (the global coalition against corruption),
corruption is define as “the abuse of entrusted power for private gain. It can
be classified as grand, petty and political, depending on the amounts of money
lost and the sector where it occurs.” Corruption can be found in every sphere
of life and its effect cannot be quantified. Corruption corrodes the fabric of
society. It undermines people’s trust in political and economic systems,
institutions and leaders. It can cost people their freedom, health, money – and
sometimes their lives.
But what do
you do to fight corruption? It is by building partnerships, proceed
step-by-step and stay non-confrontational. Experience has shown that corruption
can only be kept in check if representatives from government, business and
civil society work together to develop standards and procedures they all
support. Also corruption can’t be rooted out in one big sweep. Rather, fighting
it is a step-by-step, project-by-project process. Non-confrontational approach
is necessary to get all relevant parties around the negotiating table.
It is in
this vein that Film students of the department of Mass Communication, Lagos
State Polytechnic, Ikorodu will on Wednesday 16th December, 2015 hold an anti-campus
corruption rally at the Polytechnic campus in Ikorodu. The rally, with the
theme: Against Corruption Together: Say No to Campus Corruption which is in
commemoration of the annual Costume Day.
If we don’t
ACT NOW! And we allow corruption on campus to thrive then the future of this
country is bleak as the students on campus now will one day be leaders and
captains of various sectors in the country, thus corruption will continue in
those places.
But if we
ACT NOW! then we can systematically and gradually stamp out corruption.
